MT 542 is a SWIFT message used to instruct the delivery of financial instruments without payment. It can also be used to request a cancellation or to pre-advise an instruction.  It is sent from an account owner to an account servicer. The account owner could be a broker/dealer, an investment management institution, or a global custodian.

 

SWIFT stands for Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunications, which is a system of codes that securely transfers instructions and information.

 

MT 760 is a SWIFT message used to send and receive bank guarantees between banks.  It is used to issue a SBLC, which is a payment guarantee that a bank or financial institution provides to a client. The SBLC can be used in a variety of commercial and financial transactions.
 

The financial institution blocks the customer's funds as collateral for the guarantee.
The message has three sequences: A for general information, B for guarantee undertaking details, and C for local undertaking details.

 

MT-999 is a SWIFT message, and free format, unauthenticated text message that financial institutions use to send non-transaction specific information to other banks. It's not a form of payment or a promise to pay. (edited) 

 

MT-799 is a SWIFT message and free-format that banks use to communicate with each other through the SWIFT system to confirm funds or proof of deposits for a potential trade. MT103 is a SWIFT message, in standardized financial message format used for international wire transfers. It is a payment confirmation message that includes details about a fund transfer between financial institutions.
